Giving times two The first issue of Georgia Physician was greatly accepted by our physician readers. To my delight, I received phone calls and e-mails showing appreciation, support and interest in our publication. What surprised me, though, were the many e-mails I received from physicians with stories to tell and ideas to share. I learned that physicians are just as busy when away from the office as they are when they care for patients in the exam room. Georgia's doctors work hard, and they like to play hard. But they also like to share their multiple talents with the world. In this issue, you'll read about Dr. Richard Kauffman's volunteer work in Cambodia, a third-world country that is diminishing before our eyes from HIV (Physician Spotlight, p. 18). From artists and pilots, to runners and musicians, Georgia's doctors are coloring our state interesting. Of particular importance are physicians like Dr. Tom Price, who is helping shape the future of the Peach State in Congress. An accomplished physician and - during the last nine years - a competent politician, Price is the focus of our Executive Interview (p. 10). I recently attended an art show featuring the artwork of an Atlanta doctor. It was simply amazing to me to see the soft, creative side of an accomplished OB-GYN on colored canvases. You will have an opportunity to see his work in the next issue of the magazine. Physicians give to our state in many ways, the most important being the assurance of our health and wellness. But the other ways - enhancing our world by spreading knowledge, sharing artistic talents, volunteering time, etc. - are of importance as well. My mission now is to comb our state in search of the most interesting physicians, medical practices and trends in the medical business. As Georgia Physician grows, your feedback will be invaluable. I welcome your suggestions and ideas, as well as your thoughts and opinions on the publication. Though only in its infancy, Georgia Physician is quickly gaining momentum as the best choice for reading that blends your business and your lifestyle.
