Welcome to Georgia Physician magazine. For the last couple of years, the idea of starting a magazine just for physicians in Georgia has intrigued me. I just couldn't believe one hadn't been published already. How could such a unique and sought-after group of professionals not already have a magazine that supports, reports and communicates for its own community? While considering this opportunity, I told everyone I came in contact with about it, including physicians, current clients of MDSI and potential clients. Over and over, the response was one of astonishment. They'd say, "You're right; there isn't a magazine for our community." They all agreed it was needed. With our suspicions confirmed, we began working to launch a new publication. So for the better part of 2004, we organized, planned and launched Georgia Physician magazine. In only our third issue, tangible indications of success are becoming apparent. For example, I was approached by a good friend and client of mine for more copies of our first issue because of the profile we did on Dr. Charles Henderson. My friend went on to explain that Dr. Henderson is treating his wife through her battle with cancer. He was amazed at how well we captured Dr. Henderson's skill and compassion. Another amazing display of this community's great desire to communicate is the willingness of our state leaders to participate. In the first two issues, we featured interviews with former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, as well as Roswell's Dr. Tom Price, who spoke about his scientific approach to policy-making as he starts his term in Washington, representing Georgia's 6th congressional district. In our third issue, it is an absolute thrill to have Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue as the featured interview. I would love to say we have had all of this good fortune due to a great idea on our part, but we know better. It is absolutely because of the great community of more than 20,000 Georgia physicians whom we serve. There is no occupation, business or community that is more local than healthcare. We are proud to serve a group that preserves the lives and well-being of our state's citizens. Welcome to Georgia Physician magazine.
